“Beam me up Scotty”

Says Captain Kurk of the Starship Enterprise

Escaping yet another crisis on a mysterious world

Of the Star Trek universe

Beam me up remains a tempting image

It’s messy down here, being human

And a residual notion of Heaven

Up there

Still lurks

A place I’d like to be 

Away from all this 

And yet

Human is what I am

Messy is what I am

Scared and sad and angry and joyful 

Are emotions that come and go

I can resist

Though such resistance really is futile 

No, not the Borg, also from Star Trek

Who demanded assimilation

Rather Rumi’s reminder 

“Each has been sent as a guide from beyond”

With new delights they may be bringing

Resistance is futile

Gratitude is essential

If I am to experience

The here

The now

That this messy life has to offer

And if there is somewhere anything like heaven

Anything like the beyond

Well, it can wait…
